Kloos, Eilers Winners, Harrison, Ripperda and Suhre Double Up

Kloos, Eilers Winners, Harrison, Ripperda and Suhre Double Up

(August 7, 2010) Highland IL-The crowd at the Highland Speedway was treated to a night full of racing. Besides a full schedule of regular evening events, three classes, the Steve Schmitt Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks, and the UMP Factory Stocks all ran double features completing the race of July 24th when a late evening thunderstorm halted action.

The Super Late Models portion of the night started with their heat races. Heat wins went to the 6k of Michaela Kloos, the 11 of 14 year old Tyler Reddick, making a rare Saturday night appearance at the Speedway, and the third heat went to the 25 of “Fast” Frankie Martin.

Kloos started on the pole with Mark Faust in the 51 along side. The talk of the grandstand was the performance of young Reddick; he took the second row pole position in the feature start.

At the drop of the green flag Kloos lived up to his nickname as the “Trenton Tornado” and vaulted into the lead. Faust, Martin, Reddick, and Chad Zobrist were all fighting for position behind the 6K.

Caution waved at lap 7 just as Kloos was catching up to the back of the field. The Gerstner and Sons number 6k was running on a rail.

Each time the leaders caught up with the back of the field a caution would wave and the drivers would line up for a single file restart.

On the restart on lap 19 after a caution for debris, Faust encountered something on the track that caused the 51 to get loose, this resulted him tangling with the 78 of Zobrist who two wheeled it for a brief moment. The result of the incident retired both of the Highland regulars for the night.

Just one lap into the restart the 11 of Reddick pulled off the track, and the first five cars were Kloos, Martin, the 18 of Bobby Dauderman, the 5 of Dan Jacober and the 31 of the Silver Fox, Brent Helmkamp.

Kloos was impressive and in complete control of the evening as no one had anything for the 6K on taking another feature win at Highland. A last lap pass by Dauderman pushed him to second, Martin, third, Jacober held on for fourth and Aaron Kleine Moved into the 5th finishing position.

The make up feature for the Steve Schmitt Modifieds picked thing up were the rains halted the activities  on July 24th on lap 6 with the 24H of Mike Harrison in the lead. He picked up win number 301 by holding of the 73 of Brian Belong, the241D of Dean Hoffman and the 44 of Jim Werner JR.

In the night cap feature it looked like it would be all Brian Bielong as the 73 of Bielong took the lead with Harrison in the 24 H close behind for the first 18 of the 20 laps.

On lap 18 the duo had caught up to the rear of the field. A lap car moved over to let the leaders by but the move proved costly for Bielong as the back marker moved into his lane and allowed Harrison to drive by. Bielong ran out of laps trying to regain the lead and Mike Harrison won his 9th feature at Highland this season. Bielong finished second, Hoffman, third, the 42 of Steve Latch fourth and E55 of Chad Sellers rounded out the top 5.

The Eilers brothers Russell and Ryan have accounted for a lot of victories at the Highland Speedway in the Extreme Sportsmen division, and another brother has added his name to the 2010 win list. Robbie Eilers driving the number 1 of Steve Stevenson sat on the pole and led all 15 laps of the feature. The 19 of Jimmy Cummins kept pressure on the 1 but also he also had to deal with the other two Eilers brothers, Russell and Ryan who were constantly in the mix. Robbie Eilers picked up his first win of the year, Cummins held his ground and finished second, Russell in the 8E was third, Ryan in the 3 was fourth and Rob Lee in the 88 crossed the stripe in fifth.
