Chad Zobrist & Dean Hoffman win the Lucky 40 Season Opener Saturday Night

Saturday was an awesome night of racing at Highland Speedway after a beautiful, sunny day.  We won the race against Mother Nature and finished well before the storms hit.  She made us nervous with the light mist that started in the Late Model Feature, however we managed to get the night completed and everyone was able to get home before the snowfall.  Several people thought we were crazy for deciding to race, however those that came out and braved the chance of bad weather saw an awesome show.  All of the hard work and dedication that the Madison County Fair Association put into working on improving the track paid off.  The track was great, one of the best tracks that we have had at Highland Speedway.

The Late Model Feature was one of the most exciting features that we have had in some time, complete with 4 wide racing on the front straight away.  The Highland Bulldog, Chad Zobrist managed to take the checkered flag with Kevin Weaver and King Kong, Randy Korte not far behind.  The Cross Town Classic “Pot O Gold” money was paid out to the top 3 by points combined finishes from both shows with first place money going to Kevin Weaver, second place to Randy Korte, and third to Michael Kloos.

The Modified Feature was also one of the most exciting features that we have had in sometime.  The light mist had all of us nervous, but Mother Nature held off and let us have our fun.  Dean Hoffman managed to take the checkered flag with Rusty Griffaw and Mike Harrison not far behind.  Dean Hoffman managed to take home the entire Cross Town Classic “Bucket O Green” money home by winning both shows at BelleClair and Highland Speedway.  A huge thank you goes out to Scott Seger, Brian ‘Mooch’ Horner, and Livn4Racing for providing this bonus money.

The SportMod Feature was full of its’ own excitement, complete with Cody Johnson’s wild ride turning his car over on the front straight away.  Thankfully Cody was not hurt and we were able to continue racing and finish the feature after a brief pause for track cleanup.  Steve Ellison managed to take home the checkered flag, with Billy Knebel, Jr. and Jeremy Thoele not far behind.

The Street Stock Feature was full of excitement with rough driving and a controversial finish with Michael Ripperda, Jr. taking the checkered flag from Tony Walker,  Jason Worley came in not far behind.  All of us at Highland Speedway would like to thank you all for coming out and supporting us.  We love racing and we are really excited about the new track conditions and are looking forward to an awesome season of racing.

Come out and join us on Saturday, March 30 as the Easter Bunny comes to the track.  All the kids can come out early on Saturday and bring your Easter Baskets.  We are going to have a meet and greet for the kids with the drivers.  Drivers will be bringing candy and treats to share with the kids.  Grandstands will open at 5pm so kids can meet and greet the drivers.  Hot Laps start at 6:30pm and racing at 7pm with the UMP Late Models, UMP Steve Schmitt Modifieds, UMP B-Dry Solutions SportMods, UMP Hamel Coop Street Stocks, and the Daum Insurance Outlaw Micros.  It will be an awesome night of racing action.
